In its roundup of “pleasure pedaling” bike paths along the East Coast, National Geographic made mention of Travelers Rest as a stopping point.
“No need to be a hard-core cyclist to embark on a long-distance two-wheeled tour of America’s East Coast,” the article begins, which was published in the August/September 2015 issue of National Geographic Traveler magazine.
Those more inclined to seek out leisurely rides can, instead, opt for easygoing trails like the GHS Swamp Rabbit Trail that “winds from Greenville‘s downtown along the Reedy River to the small town of Travelers Rest.”
Many who ride the trail to its end make a stop at Travelers Rest for a meal or a little shopping before jumping back on their bikes. In this way, the trail has often introduced Greenville visitors to the city’s smaller but equally charming neighbor Travelers Rest.
The rails-to-trails Swamp Rabbit — an 18-plus-mile-long multiuse greenway that’s still expanding — is “beloved by residents,” too and great for bikers of all variety – including fat tire bikes.
Others mentioned in this list of notable bike trails include the Great Allegheny Passage in Maryland and Pennsylvania, as well as the Cape Cod Rail Trail in Massachusetts.
