Travelers Rest got a mention in a recently announced list of best small town downtowns in the U.S.
Travelers Rest’s location between the Blue Ridge Mountains and Greenville, S.C.; its proximity to Furman University; and its recent revitalization efforts were all cited as reasons for its inclusion in the list, compiled by BestChoiceReviews.org.
The Upstate city fell at spot #16, just below fellow South Carolina locale Beaufort.
Best Choice Reviews compiled the list of best small town downtowns by pulling from several respected ranking lists. Since Travelers Rest had previously been recognized as a “coolest small town” by Budget Travel and Huffington Post, it was an obvious choice for the “50 Best Small Town Downtowns in America” list.
The list highlights that small town U.S.A. boasts more than a “post office, market, and police department.” Instead, many of today’s best small towns in the country feature “unique and eclectic downtown areas full of energy, entertainment, and accessibility for Americans of all ages.”
Best Choice Reviews also considered census data like median income and median age when compiling the list.
