Travelers Rest is welcoming, memorable and bright. It’s a happy town with a tangible vibe of friendliness and the love of the outdoors, art and beauty.
It’s our privilege to be a part of bringing MORE of exactly all that to the streets of TR.
A few years ago we were able to help support a talented pair of local artists and bring a beautiful mural to Main Street. (We love seeing you guys pose and share photos in front of the Postage Stamp Mural! Keep tagging us – it’s fabulous!)
This fall TWO new murals will be seen gracing the walls of buildings on Main Street. In fact, all three of the murals will be within walking distance of one another – so we propose grabbing a drink or a slush and taking photos at all three of them.
Public art is a gift to all of us, locals and visitors, residents and guests. And we all have the opportunity to help make these murals jump from the page or the computer screen right onto the buildings of Travelers Rest.
As you are heading into TR from Greenville, drive right past the post office toward downtown. The first mural will be on the first building that greets your eye. Owned by Highsmith & Highsmith, this is the side of the building that is home to TR Oriental. Designed in part by the team at Highsmith & Highsmith, along with the mural artist, this is a fabulous welcome to town.
The artist is Adam Schrimmer of Blank Canvas Mural Company and you can see his other work on his website and in his Instagram feed. Adam is a talented artist with great eye for design and we’re so excited to have some of his skills shining in the Upstate. (You can see his many amazing murals on his Instagram feed!)
The second mural is located exactly on the other side of this row on the building owned by Loftis Printing. It’s an iconic Welcome to Travelers Rest sign reminiscent of old postcards. (In fact, we think this would be an adorable postcard to carry in our local shops!) Inside the letters spelling Travelers Rest you’ll find pieces of the history of our town and our region.
It will definitely be a favorite for photos and the grassy green space in front and alongside the Swamp Rabbit Trail will be a real bonus. (This green space is owned by the TR Historical Society and the Spring Park Inn whose incredible project is slowly coming to fruition.)
Both mural projects will begin soon and you can see the progress as we share it here and via social media – and, of course – as you drive right by the work in progress!
What can you do to help?
So glad you asked!
Just like our last mural project, we learned that it takes an entire community to make it happen. The art is for all of us to enjoy and so it’s a privilege for all of us to help make it happen.
Area businesses are generously donating their funds and the city has a matching facade improvement grant that both businesses have applied for and are utilizing. Additionally, we want YOU to donate.
If you’re a business or a family who wants to pool your resources, there’s a way that you can also leave your mark on the new mural as well.
On the postcard mural on the Loftis building there will be space to list the names of donors. The design will be wrapping around the back of the building which faces a one way street that folks take to reach the Spring Park Inn, the townhomes and other residences along that road and the businesses there as well.
Folks who donate $500 or more will have their name featured on this back wall. (Have a club that meets regularly? Gather your friends and all donate together for your name to be permanently shared with our community as a proud sponsor of the arts in Travelers Rest.)
For donations over $1,000, your name will be featured on the front of the mural facing the green space.
Thank y’all for always being ready to support our town and the many ways we all work together to keep it beautiful!
Share this post with your friends and let’s fund this project as quickly as we can!
