A Perfect Travelers Rest Saturday Pairing: The TR Christmas Parade & A Very Merry Local Christmas Market

We’re not making this up – there’s magic in the air in Travelers Rest this weekend.

It’s quite literally the best Saturday in TR.

If you love small town (and if you’re reading this, it’s a good bet that you do) and if you love local and if you love charm – then you’ll love December 10.

The first order of the day is to pick up some hot cocoa and a treat.  (Last year we saw some people downing pork rinds at 10 am – if that’s your speed, go for it, but we’re more of the hot cocoa paired with a cinnamon roll or a scone kind of people. We’ll happily toast to your pork rinds though.)  Find your seat early along the main streets of TR because the annual TR Christmas Parade is popular here and the sidewalks fill up fast.

With local marching bands and young baton twirlers and floats representing this year’s theme, you’re sure to find plenty to smile at and someone to wave to and we guarantee that you’ll see at least one of the following (and probably all three): a neighbor, a boat being pulled down Main Street and a grown man in a costume. (We should start offering a TR Christmas parade bingo card with he winner find ALL of the above!)

When the parade hullabaloo ends and you’ve casually discussed all of the floats with your friends and your children have picked their favorites, it’s the perfect opportunity to stroll through the shops and enjoy some Christmas shopping, to grab lunch or to meander along on the Swamp Rabbit Trail.

If you head over to Trailblazer Park right after the parade is over, you can find out who the winners are and have cookies with Santa. He’s ready to hear the winners too!

The afternoon holds more excitement to round out the magical hometown day.

And you can find it on down the trail.

Over at Trailblazer Park, the Very Merry Local Christmas Market, put together through the Travelers Rest Farmers Market, will be set up and ready for you.  From 1 to 4:30 you and your pals can walk from vendor to vendor, from food truck to food truck.  You can spread a quilt on the lawn and enjoy your a treat from a food truck or a delicious pastry from Fancy Fox Bake Shop.  Shoot, it’s practically a holiday – try both!

The vendor list for the Very Merry Local Christmas Market is extensive  and larger than it has ever been with over ONE HUNDRED vendors this year! You are sure to find the perfect gift for Uncle John (maybe a t-shirt from Swamp Rabbit Tees) and that salt lamp you’ve been wanting from iViva for your own stocking.  You can stock up on great art and ornaments and we know you’ll find something for everyone on your list.  (We won’t tell anyone if you open your gift early.)  Seriously – there’s way too many vendors to list here!  Think chocolate and soaps, beef and local mushrooms, handmade ornaments and pottery, jewelry and folk instruments, olive oil and kettle corn, apples and coffee, t-shirts and candles.  The assortment goes on and on.

Bring the entire family and spend the day in Travelers Rest.

This special Saturday has long been high on our list of favorite days to spend in Travelers Rest.  After you’ve enjoyed your Saturday – let us know if it’s one of your favorites too.
