We don’t gather the wagons, roast the pigs and call the community together for a good old barn raising these days.
But what we do to help our neighbors is still sort of similar.
This Saturday night’s fundraiser at Moss Oak Farmhouse is a perfect example of a group of people coming together to help their friends and family make it through an impossibly hard season.
Alyssa, a teacher, a wife, a daughter, and a mother of two, was diagnosed with cancer in the spring. She has spent the last several months in Arizona seeking holistic healing at a facility there. Cancer has changed the lives of so many people that we love in our own day to day lives. We know the treatments are expensive and the added job of caring for the loved one’s family while they are undergoing treatments is also a major expense and burden financially. Thankfully, and miraculously, Alyssa has responded very well to her treatments and has recently returned home to be with her family after a summer apart from her children and her husband.
All of the proceeds from this fundraiser are going directly to help the Wentzel family pay for Alyssa’s medical treatment and ongoing family needs.
The venue is a charming century old farmhouse located at 2704 Tigerville Road known as Moss Oak Farmhouse. Perhaps you’ve driven by in the past as the remodeling on this beauty of a home has been taking place. (Our own Town Guide members – Carolina Floor Crafters – handled the restoration process on the gorgeous original hardwood floors.) You may remember a beautiful concert held their last summer with Out of the Dust.
On Saturday, September 28 from 4 to 7 at Moss Oak Farmhouse there will be two bands performing – The Travelin’ Wannabes and Bryan Gilbert & Friends.
And what’s music without some food served alongside of it? You can purchase BBQ plates and more refreshments to enjoy. BBQ plates will be $10 each and hot dog plates are $5 each. We’ve heard that some delicious homemade cakes made by our talented friend Brian Hardyman of Greer Real Estate will be available as well for a raffle or an old fashioned cake walk! (Maybe you’ve tried them before on a Friday night at Montgomery and Grace during the Jamboree at My Sister’s Store. Trust us – they are delicious!)
In addition to the music, the food and the beautiful farm, there’s a silent auction taking place too. Many local people and businesses have contributed to the auction. You’re going to love the items that have been collected. There’s an event page here so you can read more about the specific items in the auction and find out more details of the fundraiser. You’ll find items like a gorgeous handcrafted wooden sofa table, framed artwork, and beautiful cutting boards from Split Woodworks. And there’s even a darling doodle puppy available at the silent auction from TR’s own Doodle Alliance.
Bring your own lawn chair or a blanket to spread out on the grass and come celebrate families helping families, a community serving one another and be a part of helping a really dear and kind family as they face a struggle we’re all much too familiar with in our own circles.
