If you’ve made a summer bucket list and you live in the South, I’m guessing getting near water ranks high on the list.

It’s hot and it’s humid and water is the solution for most of us to beat the heat.

We’re lucky to have a lot of choices within a short drive:

Long Shoals Wayside Park
Wildcat Wayside
Upstate Fishing Spots
Lake Jocassee
Three SC State Parks Nearby
Paris Mountain State Park

And really, the list could go on.

And we’re about to add another one to it.

Green River Tubing.

We have a handful of rivers and lakes accessible us – the Saluda and Lake Keowee and Lake Hartwell and Lake Jocassee and a few more. And on most of these waters you can load your own tubes in a truck and toss them out on the water pretty simply.

But sometimes you want the most straight forward, user-friendly option. Or you don’t have tubes. Or last year’s tubes are deflated and covered in cobwebs.

Green River Tubing is an easy and low cost choice for you and dozens of your friends to all pile in and go together.

You don’t need an appointment and you can get there in an hour or so. (The road is CURVY so be prepared!)

It’s only $10 per tuber (less if you bring a group) and you just show up at their location, pay your Hamilton, sign a waiver, pick a tube and climb aboard the big old school bus. They’ll tote you crew to the river front where you put in and flat away.

The water is cold – naturally – and I personally like to wear water shoes. They’ll provide a rope if you want to lash your tubes together. Occasionally you might need to walk over the rocks if the river is low but this summer on our float we never had to do anything other than raise our rears for some big rocks.

You’ll get some rapids – it’s not an entirely lazy river sort of float and you get to navigate around little island of sorts about halfway through.

It’s easy to mis the spot where you take out so keep your eyes open. If you do miss the first spot though, there’s another take out a few yards down. The float took us about two hours to get from Point A to Point B on the river. You can actually choose to float even longer another take out spot and get a bus ride back if you are just loving your pink tube and not feeling the need to leave the river. (That’s a nearly five hour float and it costs $15.)
