Turkey and dressing… DONE. Leftovers… GONE. Now it’s time to ramp up your search for the perfect Christmas tree. While the silver tree with the color wheel may be making a comeback, many holiday lovers still prefer live trees. Candles and sprays only go so far to add that pine scent to your home. If only they came pre-lit for people like me!
It’s now time for those who actually wait till the month of December to decorate to begin their search. We’ve found four locations in and around Travelers Rest eager to sell you a new fir friend.
Travelers Rest Feed & Seed
10 McElhaney Rd.
You can buy a beautiful tree and a house for your dog all in one place at the Feed & Seed! If you are a TR native, you know all about this staple of the community.
Trees R Us TR
999 Geer Hwy. (By Renfrew Baptist Church)
This Christmas tree lot is easy to find and still has plenty of trees left for those of us decorating in December. (Which is perfectly fine, I tell you.) Run by the Biggerstaff family, this lot has been locally owned for years.
Swamp Rabbit Café & Grocery
205 Cedar Lane Rd., Greenville
One of my favorite stops, Swamp Rabbit Café & Grocery is serving up $55 Fraser Firs along with all the other goodies on their menu. Nope, they aren’t officially in TR, but you can ride your bike down the trail to get there so we’ll call it close enough for today. (And bonus points for taking your tree back home on the back of your bicycle!)
Elves Tree Farm
217 Berea Heights Rd.
This is the stop where I learned the most about growing trees. Elves Tree Farm was established in 1980 and owner, Jim Freeman, is happy to share his knowledge and experience with shoppers. There’s even a little see-saw if you have little ones in tow. PS, don’t leave without a wreath!
Mystic Farm
9029 Old White Horse Rd.
As far as aesthetics go, this Southern Plantation-like property is at the top of my list. Susan Fink has been in the Christmas tree business since 1983, and takes pride in serving loyal customers year after year. In fact, she may be sold out as we “speak”. Mystic Farm will shake ‘em, tie ‘em to your car and sell you the stand, so you’re set to go! Hand-made wreaths are also available.
I’m having trouble wrapping my brain around the fact that it’s December. Wrapping gifts hasn’t even been on my radar. Guess it’s time I take my own advice and go get a tree!
