Greenville County is the largest county in the Upstate and we know that means that there are areas all across the county that some of us have yet to explore.
Places like Chestnut Ridge Heritage Preserve and Blue Wall Preserve.
In the northern part of our county, tucked away in the foothills, you’ll find treasures like Hotel Domestique and Restaurant 17. Not far from there, just off of Highway 11 and near North Greenville University, lies another gem – Cherokee Valley. It’s a neighborhood and a golf course. They’ve recently been recognized with an award from Golf Inc. Shane Sharp, who handles Cherokee Valley’s marketing and media, shared with us more about this honor.

Cherokee Valley Course and Club is situated amid the rolling foothills of Upstate South Carolina’s scenic Blue Ridge region adjacent to North Greenville University. It features the region’s only P.B. Dye-designed golf course, a mountain-style gem winding through rolling hills and deep dales, sprinkled with ample stretches of gently rolling fairways and trademark Dye green complexes.
Home of the NGU Crusaders men’s and women’s golf teams, Cherokee Valley’s golf training facility and expansive practice range is a multi-faceted game-improvement headquarters.
Cherokee Valley, the Upstate’s premier family and community-focused club north of Greenville, has been recognized as one of North America’s Most Innovative Golf Courses by Golf Inc. Magazine.
Golf Inc. is the world’s only golf business magazine focusing on golf course developers, owners and management companies. Based in San Diego, it was founded in 1991 and is one of the most widely read and respected industry publications.
“This recognition from Golf Inc. is a tremendous validation of the golf 3.0 approach we take at Cherokee Valley,” says owner and director of operations Matt Jennings, who acquired Cherokee Valley in 2017. “Our goal of providing a truly unique experience and culture is coming to fruition and we relish serving our guests, members and community.”
Cherokee Valley, along with private course winner Seville Golf and Country Club in Gilbert, Arizona, will be honored at the Golf Inc. Innovation Strategy Conference in Nashville, April 20-21. The magazine cited Cherokee Valley’s leading-edge golf and non-golf programming, membership plans and Grow the Game initiatives in its selection.
This year, Cherokee Valley will open its full-service restaurant, CORE 450, featuring a contemporary, engaging and casual theme with a diverse menu ranging from small plates and pizza to five course meals. CORE 450 is led by executive chef Todd Warden, who studied under James Beard award-winning chef Bob Kinkead.
Cottages conveniently located just a few steps from the golf shop and first tee are available for overnight stays or daily rental. Cherokee Valley offers a wide-variety of value-laden memberships and is open for public play with daily fee weekday and weekends rates that include a cart.
