Travelers Rest is more than a little stopping point along the way to somewhere more important. In fact, it’s become a destination all its own.
It’s a growing, vibrant city with a revitalized downtown and a growing economy, which includes a growing food scene. Travelers Rest’s boom in growth is thanks, in large part, to the creation and success of the GHS Swamp Rabbit Trail, a more than 20 mile long rails-to-trails pathway that begins just north of Travelers Rest and runs all the way into downtown Greenville and beyond.
Many folks – more than half a million every year, in fact – hop on the Swamp Rabbit Trail to walk, jog or bike from Travelers Rest to Greenville or from Greenville to Travelers Rest. It serves as a wonderful connection between the two cities.
But don’t worry. Even with all its changes, Travelers Rest still feels like the peaceful mountain town it’s always been, where there’s still enough time in the day to slow down and stop what you’re doing to watch that beautiful sunset in the sky or to grab a seat out on the porch, sweet tea in hand.
It’s the sort of place where you’re bound to see an old friend or make a new one every time you visit one of our unique restaurants, shops, attractions or lodging.
Beechwood Farms has been in business for over 50 years!
Farming is a challenging profession, as floods, droughts and freezes can easily ruin months of careful preparations. However, to Billy and Elizabeth Ledford, it has been a calling. They love the upstate community, and they feel that God has called them to work the land.
You can know exactly the source of your food, maximize its nutritional value, and we can wrestle with the floods, droughts, and freezes, so you don’t have to!
At our South Carolina certified roadside market, customers can purchase a wide variety of fresh, locally-grown fruits and vegetables. You can also find us at various local Farmer’s Markets.
In addition to being able to shop our roadside market, customers can enjoy the beauty of the farm by choosing to pick their own strawberries or vegetables.
Visit our website and our Facebook page to find out what is in season and when the fields are open!
Come see us.
Campbell's Covered Bridge
Although officially in Landrum, it’s so close to TR and so unique, we think it’s worth including.
Campbell’s Covered Bridge is the only remaining covered bridge in South Carolina! It was built in 1909 by Charles Irwin Willis and is currently owned by Greenville County.
Take a picnic out to the park and explore the streams and the bridge and the old homesite. Read the signs to discover more about its origin.
Before you hop in the car, read our blog post about the bridge and discover interesting facts about its history.Go to Site Open Map

Gray Mare Antiques
We like to say that we sell antiques and mantiques – and everything in between. You’ll find glassware and Wade figurines, old signs, furniture and toys and so much more. We carry local art and local gifts – like hand poured soy candles and hand crafted knives, local steampunk art and coin collections.
Gray Mare Antiques is a comfortable, laid-back, small-town store housed in an old-timey, “General Store Where Everybody In Town Seems To Meet Up” type building right on Main Street.
We are pet-friendly (our own sweet Maggie is usually at the shop with us) so if you are walking/hiking/running/riding the Swamp Rabbit Trail directly across the street from our shop with your fur-baby, please drop in for a free cup of coffee and a chat.
You may wish to bring an item or two (or more) in on consignment for us to sell for you.
We’d love to meet you, so come see us and sit a spell. It’ll be fun!Go to Site Open Map
Highsmith & Highsmith
In the day-to-day activities of running a business, it’s easy to start making guesses and base your decisions on faulty information.
In the financial world, things aren’t always simple. One small decision affects a business in many ways. Tax law is complicated and can be frustrating.
Highsmith & Highsmith exists to help small to mid-sized businesses, non-profits, and municipalities access and understand the information they need to make smart business decisions.
Our regular menu items are cooked fresh, daily and our specials are determined by the seasons. We have very close relationships with our local farmers, growers and makers and we use freshly harvested produce, baked goods, cheeses and locally made products as much as possible.
Take our homemade bread – carefully crafted by our own wonderful pastry chef, Jennifer Richard. It’s so good that we started selling it by the loaf and can’t keep enough on hand.
Our specials change often so you never know what might be on the menu at the Drover. We invite you to come on by and see what we’re cooking up!
We sell a variety of products such as raw milk, fresh local eggs, Amish butter and local produce when it’s in season. We get our fresh, raw milk weekly from the farmer right down the road and we make regular trips to gather the finest, freshest produce and products we can find for you to take home.Go to Site Open Map

Whistle Stop at the American Cafe
The Whistle Stop at the American Café has been a family-owned cafe since 1945, when it was purchased by Troy Styles, Sr.
The building has served as a Travelers Rest landmark since it was first built on Main Street in Travelers Rest in 1932.
Located along the Swamp Rabbit Trail, the American Café (as it was then known) was a “whistle stop,” a place the conductor would stop when signaled.
Expanded and renovated in 2013, the Whistle Stop features the cafe’s vintage bar stools, hand made chestnut counter, exposed beam ceiling and brick walls.
We offer both indoor and seasonal rooftop dining as well as a full service bar. And if you’re in the mood for something sweet, be sure to visit the Caboose Express, located out back along the trail.
